Built in 1937, this two-story Regency style house was designed by the distinguished Houston architect Birdsall P. Briscoe. Briscoe balanced the asymmetrical front elevation of the house with double front doors, capped with an arched fanlight and framed by a band of louvres, with tall windows on both the first and second floor levels. Briscoe organized the interior with generously proportioned rooms that overlook the south-facing rear garden. In 2015, the present owners commissioned architect Martha B. Bute for an extensive renovation. The prominent architectural elements of the entry were repeated as one looks from the front entry through to the renovated garden room. The landscape renovation of the gardens was designed by landscape architect Johnny Steele. Stephanie Fox of Botanica collaborated on the implementation of the plant material. Mr. Steele structured the garden spaces respecting the existing axial garden design, resulting in continuity of the architecture to the landscape. This invites one to explore the quiet and graceful garden spaces.
