The Forum of Civics
2503 Westheimer Road 77098
The Forum of Civics began life as a country schoolhouse in 1910 far from the city limits of Houston. Within a decade the building was abandoned. In 1925 William C. Hogg, son of the first native-born governor of Texas, purchased the property and famed architect John F. Staub transformed the building into a New England-style meeting house. The Forum of Civics building was used as a public forum to develop a comprehensive urban plan for Houston and Harris County. Purchased by River Oaks Garden Club in 1942, it is now listed in the National Register of Historic Places. During the Trail, visitors can enjoy the lush outdoor gardens as well as great advice from local gardening experts.
